Dash

I read of a man who stood to speak
At the funeral of his friend.
He referred to the dates on the tombstone
From the beginning to the end.

He noted at first came the date of her birth
And spoke of the second with tears.
But he said what mattered most of all
Was the dash between those years.

So when your eulogy is being read
With your life's actions to rehash
Would you be pleased with the things they say
About how you spent your dash?

If you are somehow foreshadowing something I am not going to like, such as your untimely demise, I will come over there and kick your ass!

Now stop posting morbid stuff and post more stuff about ultrasounding testicles and such!

Un-like The Wife,

I see a great deal of positive in this little refrain. (But then again, my glass is ALWAYS 1/2 full)

To be the one you want to be, truly can be summed up in what others say about you now, and again at that time when everyone finally takes the time, to reflect upon their time with you.

"Looking ahead, can change a person enough to make their "dash," not only worthwile, but fun to the end."

The similarities continue to freak me out! (In a good way, of course)

Be safe !

Dr. Chako,
The dash that follows your date of birth is filled with exemplary accomplishments. Among other things, it includes the choosing of a wife for whom you can boast, brag and take pride, the creation of two children that are destined to make their own mark, and a career that includes exhalted titles such as Doctor, Lieutenant Colonel, Chief of Diagnosis, and D.C.C.S.

Now you are in the middle of an experience that will dramatically increase the length and breadth of your dash. And that is your involvement in the war in Iraq. Much like the legendary "Hawkeye" in M*A*S*H*, you may poke fun at the menagerie of oddballs that surround you but, when lives are on the line, you take great pride in being part of a team that you helped to fashion. Rest assured, you are not only making a mark in this world, but the mark you are making is fast becoming indelible.
